AnswerBot ("we," "us," "our") operates the answerbot.ca website and the AnswerBot missed-call text-back service. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).
1. Information We Collect
From Business Subscribers
- Business name, contact name, email address, and phone number
- Billing information processed securely by Stripe (we do not store credit card numbers)
- Business type and industry vertical
- Greeting style preferences and account settings
From Callers (End Users of Our Subscribers)
- Phone number (collected automatically from the missed call)
- SMS message content exchanged during the automated conversation
- Call metadata (time, duration, call status)
- Lead qualification data derived from conversation content
2. How We Use Personal Information
- To provide the missed-call text-back and AI lead recovery service
- To send automated SMS responses on behalf of our business subscribers
- To classify and score leads for our subscribers
- To process payments and manage subscriptions
- To send transactional emails (welcome emails, account updates, billing notices)
- To improve our AI response quality and service reliability
3. SMS Program Disclosures
AnswerBot operates the AnswerBot Missed-Call Text-Back SMS program. The following disclosures apply to all text messages sent through our platform:
- Message frequency: Message frequency varies. A caller will receive one initial text-back per missed call. If the caller replies, additional messages are exchanged as part of the AI conversation. If the caller does not reply, up to 4 follow-up messages may be sent over 7 days.
- Message and data rates may apply. Recipients should check with their wireless carrier for details on applicable charges.
- Opt-out: Reply STOP to any message to immediately stop receiving messages. Reply ARRET for French opt-out (Canadian recipients). Additional keywords: CANCEL, END, QUIT, UNSUBSCRIBE, STOPALL.
- Help: Reply HELP or INFO to any message to receive support information, or email info@answerbot.ca.
- No sharing for marketing: No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

4. Consent
We rely on the following forms of consent under CASL and PIPEDA:
- Implied consent (callers): When a person calls a business and the call goes unanswered, we treat this as implied consent to send a text-back message. Under CASL, implied consent from an inquiry is valid for six months.
- Express consent (subscribers): Business subscribers provide express consent when they sign up for AnswerBot and agree to these terms.
- Opt-out: Every automated SMS includes instructions to reply STOP or ARRET to unsubscribe. Opt-out requests are processed immediately and permanently.
5. Disclosure of Personal Information
We do not sell personal information. We share data only with:
- Our business subscribers: Caller phone numbers, conversation summaries, and lead data are shared with the business that the caller was trying to reach.
- Service providers: Twilio (telephony), Supabase (database hosting in Canada), Stripe (payments), Postmark (transactional email), and AI model providers for response generation.
- Legal requirements: When required by law, court order, or regulatory authority.
6. Data Storage and Retention
- Data is stored in Supabase hosted in the ca-central-1 (Canada) region.
- Operational logs are retained for 30 days.
- Audit and compliance logs (CASL consent records) are retained for 3 years as required by law.
- Caller data (leads, conversations, call logs) is retained for the duration of the subscriber's active account. Upon cancellation, this data is automatically deleted after 90 days.
- Billing records are retained as required by Canadian tax law.
7. Data Security
We protect personal information using industry-standard measures including encrypted data transmission (TLS), access controls, and secure authentication. Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe, a PCI DSS Level 1 certified provider.
8. Your Rights Under PIPEDA
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Withdraw consent for future communications
- Request deletion of your personal information (subject to legal retention requirements)
- File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada
9. United States Visitors
If you are located in the United States, the following additional terms apply:
- Text Messaging: AnswerBot sends text messages on behalf of our subscribers in response to missed calls from the caller. Recipients can opt out at any time by replying STOP. We follow industry best practices for US text messaging regulations.
- CAN-SPAM: Any marketing emails from AnswerBot include sender identification, a physical mailing address, and a clear unsubscribe mechanism, as required by the CAN-SPAM Act.
- Data Storage: Your data is stored in Canada (Supabase ca-central-1 region). Canada is recognized by many jurisdictions as providing adequate data protection. No data is sold to third parties.
- California Residents (CCPA): You have the right to know what personal information we collect, request its deletion, and opt out of its sale (we do not sell personal data). Contact privacy@answerbot.ca to exercise these rights.
